Police rescue 5 kidnapped passengers after gun battle with bandits in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully rescued five abducted passengers following a gun battle with armed bandits along the Funtua-Gusau Road in Faskari Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the victims—two drivers and three passengers—were kidnapped at Unguwar-Basau on the night of May 19, 2025, around 9:37 p.m.

“A distress call was received at the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters that some suspected armed bandits had attacked passengers in two vehicles: a Hummer bus with registration number T0510 KN and a white Mendez truck, registration LFA 508 YR,” Aliyu stated.

Upon receiving the alert, an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team was swiftly deployed to the scene.

The officers engaged the bandits in a gun duel, overpowering them with superior firepower and tactics, leading to the safe rescue of all five kidnapped individuals.

Aliyu confirmed that four of the victims sustained injuries during the incident and were immediately taken to Sheme Primary Health Centre for treatment. All are reportedly responding well to medical care.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, lauded the operatives for their courage and rapid response, urging them to maintain momentum in the fight against banditry across the state.
