Our Structure Intact Without Him — Bayelsa PDP Reacts to Gov Diri’s Resignation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has reaffirmed that its structures remain solid and united despite the resignation of Governor Douye Diri from the party.
Governor Diri, who chaired the PDP zoning committee that allocated the party’s 2023 presidential ticket to the South, announced his resignation on Wednesday during an expanded State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa. His departure ended weeks of speculation about his planned defection.
“After extensive consultation, today, the 15th of October 2025, I wish to formally notify you that I, Governor Douye Diri, do hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party,” Diri declared.
He added that he was not leaving the party alone. “I am here with Mr Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, and all our members in the Assembly who are with me on this. So today, I have formally resigned from the PDP for very obvious reasons.”
Following his announcement, the Bayelsa State PDP held an emergency meeting in Yenagoa, where it formally accepted the governor’s resignation “with utmost respect.”
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ebiye Agu Ogoli, the party expressed appreciation for Diri’s leadership and his cordial relationship with stakeholders during his time in the PDP.
“The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally accepted the resignation of Governor Douye Diri.
“While recognizing his decision, the PDP reaffirms its commitment to the party’s vision, goals, and objectives, assuring members that all structures within the Bayelsa chapter remain solid and unified,” the statement read.
The party also extended its best wishes to Diri, praying for success in his future endeavours.
