MTN Nigeria has announced a three-year national roaming agreement with Emerging Markets Telecommunications (EMT) Services Limited, enabling 9mobile subscribers to access MTN’s extensive network infrastructure across the country.

Emerging Markets Telecommunications owns 9mobile.

A roaming agreement is a deal between telecom operators that allows the customers of one network to use the services and infrastructure of another, particularly in locations where their own network is unavailable.

In a statement to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Monday, MTN said the agreement would enable 9mobile subscribers to roam seamlessly on its network, promoting industry collaboration and improving operational efficiency.

“By leveraging our extensive coverage, 9Mobile can provide mobile communication services to its customers. This strategic collaboration is yet another first in the country by MTN Nigeria and marks a significant milestone for the sustainability of the telecommunications industry,” MTN said.

“By enabling national roaming, MTN Nigeria is contributing to a more effective use of telecommunications resources and accelerating efforts to expand connectivity across the country. This initiative aligns with MTN Nigeria’s commitment to creating shared value and supporting industry sustainability.”

Karl Toriola, chief executive officer of MTN Nigeria, described the agreement as a significant step in the company’s ongoing commitment to fostering industry collaboration, enhancing customer experience, and supporting the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) vision of a fully connected Nigeria.

“Delivering the scale required for telecommunications services in Nigeria requires strong collaboration between the private sector, public sector, and long-term investors,” Toriola said.

“This agreement demonstrates what we can achieve when we collaborate, and we are delighted to announce it today after months of groundwork.”

MTN reiterated its commitment to driving innovation and partnerships that deliver sustainable value for stakeholders while also advancing digital and financial inclusion across Nigeria.(The cable)
