UBEC Board: Tinubu Replaced Olorunnimbe With Al-makura To Please Northerners – Sources
President Bola Tinubu this week replaced Idris Olorunnimbe With Tanko Al-Makura as board chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Presidency source says Olorunnimbe, the founder of The Temple Management was replaced following agitation from northern caucus, especially CPC bloc in the All Progressives Congress.
The appointment of Temple’s boss as UBEC board chairman in March 2025 attracted mixed feelings.
Many Nigerians hailed his appointment citing good track records and injection of fresh blood. But the Northern Politician led by Senator Ali Ndume berated Tinubu for giving juicy appointment to people from southwest extraction.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa had on Tuesday inaugurated Al-makura in Abuja.
It’s unclear if Olorunnimbe, a staunch supporter of the President will be considered for another federal appointment.
