I wanted to abuse Buhari when he died but my wife advised me not to – Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, ex-governor of Ekiti state, says his wife advised him not to abuse Muhammadu Buhari when the former president died.

Buhari died on July 13 in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 82.

The former president was buried on July 15 at his residence in Daura, Katsina state.

Speaking on Friday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Fayose said he wanted to criticise Buhari after his death, but refrained following his wife’s advice.

“The people in Nigeria only praise the dead. When Buhari died, I wanted to come out and abuse him [but] my wife called me not to say so,” Fayose said.

“Would you say Buhari performed? I am not among those praising the dead. Don’t honour me when I die. When I die, I’m gone.

“When Buhari was in government, we all knew what this country was. So, nobody should come and tell me that Tinubu is not doing well. He is accessible. Was the former president accessible?

“A lot of things are happening in those days, but do you still find them in the system? He is not a perfect man but we are not where we were.

“Nigeria is a sick country; it will take heaven to pull it out at once. What miracle can anybody do in two years? The situation is critical, wide and deep. Tinubu inherited a very bad economy.”

BUHARI’S LONGTIME CRITIC

Fayose has been a consistent critic of late Buhari.

Ahead of the 2015 election, he questioned Buhari’s health status and argued that there were many qualified northerners better suited to lead the country.

In 2017, while Buhari was in the UK receiving medical treatment, Fayose claimed the president was on life support.

A year later, in 2018, he urged Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.

Fayose described Buhari as a “grandpa” who, he said, had done more harm than good to Nigeria.(The Cable)
