Ailing Finance Minister Back In Nigeria After UK Medical Trip
Wale Edun, Nigeria’s minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, has returned to the country after a period abroad, News360 Nigeria reports.
A video circulating on social media captured Edun at Fraser Suites in Abuja, where he was reportedly seen on Sunday.
According to reports, the minister held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation at the hotel, alongside Jumoke Oduwole, the minister for industry, trade, and investment.
Edun was earlier reported to have taken ill and left Abuja for Lagos last Monday via a commercial flight before proceeding abroad to seek medical treatment.
His return appears to mark a resumption of official duties following his recovery.
Last week, Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, confirmed that the minister was indisposed.
As a result of Edun’s health condition, Olayemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), led Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington DC, United States.
Meanwhile, the minister was recently seen at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London.
A video circulating on social media showed the minister addressing guests at the gallery.
Onanuga, who also shared the video on X, confirmed that the minister was in the United Kingdom (UK).
“Finance minister Wale Edun visits an art exhibition in the UK. He is in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy,” Onanuga wrote on his X page.
