US warns of permanent visa ban over forged documents

The United States has warned visa applicants that submitting forged documents or deliberately providing false information could result in a permanent visa ban.

The US Mission said strict documentation checks and coordination among government agencies were key components of US immigration enforcement and national security operations.

It warned that presenting forged financial records, civil documents, passports or job offers could trigger a finding of wilful misrepresentation under Section 212(a)(6)(C)(i) of the US Immigration and Nationality Act.

Such a finding can make an applicant permanently ineligible for a US visa, subject to any applicable waiver provisions.

“When consular officers detect fraudulent documents in a visa application or uncover information suggesting an individual may be a potential threat, we immediately alert all appropriate U.S. government agencies,” the mission said.

“We are coordinating to protect national security and keep criminals and bad actors out.”

The mission said consular posts share fraud indicators and security information with relevant US government agencies as part of the vetting process.

It urged visa applicants to complete their own Form DS-160 or carefully review every entry if they receive assistance, stressing that applicants are responsible for the information submitted on their behalf.

The mission also warned applicants against unlicensed visa consultants who promise guaranteed approvals or offer fraudulent bank statements, employment letters or invitation letters.

It advised applicants to rely on official US government websites for visa requirements, policy updates and other immigration information.
