Angelina Jolie Hints That She May Run for President
During a conversation on BBC Radio 4, Angelina Jolie hinted that she may consider a move into politics in the future. The high-profile actress and activist told BBC host Justin Webb that in the past she would have dismissed the idea, but now, would go wherever she was “needed”.
Jolie said, “right now I am able to work with a UN agency… I am also able to work with governments and I’m also able to work with militaries and so I sit in a very interesting place”.
Jolie was referring to her work as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) which has taken her to Peru, West Mosul, South Korea, and Ecuador.
She is also piloting a new current affairs program aimed at children on the BBC in 2019. She will serve as an executive producer on the project which she hopes will “help young people in different countries to be connected to each other and have greater awareness and understanding of the news on an international basis.”
The actress conceded, “I don’t know if I’m fit for politics,” but added, “I don’t know if I have got a skeleton left in my closet. I am pretty open and out there. I can take a lot on the chin,” Business Insider reported.
Jolie concluded, “for now, I’ll stay quiet”. Justin Webb responded to Jolie’s hint at entering the political fray by commenting, “there’s going to be 30 or 40 Democrats running for the nomination next time. I think I’ve just put you somewhere on the list”.
Jolie, giving nothing away, replied, “thank you.”
