Nigeria’s Elections Have Improved Since PDP Left Power – Akpabio
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has claimed that Nigeria’s electoral process has witnessed significant improvement since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) left power in 2023.
Akpabio made the remark on Wednesday during the plenary session at the second reading of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
“Since the PDP left, elections have improved tremendously in this country. Imagine in the last election, we had to go as far as the Supreme Court, debating whether winning the FCT should be a requirement to become president,” he said.
The Senate President further alleged that certain individuals from Anambra State, whose names he declined to reveal, had travelled abroad during the 2023 elections to prepare documents, which they later presented in court after the polls.
While passing the bill for second reading, Akpabio stated, “A Bill for an Act to repeal the Electoral Act No. 13 of 2022 and enact the Electoral Act 2025, to regulate the conduct of Federal, State, and Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, and for related matters, 2025, second reading taken.”
