A 35-year-old man, identified as Gabriel Elijah, has been arraigned in court after he allegedly beat his neighbour’s wife into coma in Kaduna.
Elijah, a resident of Barnawa Complex Area of Kaduna State, is standing trial on a charge of assault, and was was on Thursday arraigned before a Barnawa Customary Court, Kaduna,
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 27, 2018 at his residence.
Leo said that Amaka Chinoso of the same address as the defendant, reported the matter at Barnawa Police Station, Kaduna, on the same date.
According to him, the defendant and the complainant had a misunderstanding, which led to the former beating her into a coma.
The prosecutor said that the complainant was saved by neighbours who were at home, while the case was reported to the Police and the defendant was arrested.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to a bail of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He adjourned the case until January 15 for further hearing.
