UCL: Whoever gave Valverde Man of the Match against Inter was sleeping – Mourinho
Real Madrid manager, José Mourinho, has claimed that Federico Valverde did not deserve to be named Man of the Match against Inter Milan.
Valverde scored Los Blancos’ second goal as they began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Mourinho’s former team.
But the Portuguese has now claimed goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was the right candidate to receive the Man of the Match award.
Courtois pulled off several excellent saves as Madrid took maximum points at the Bernabéu.
“Courtois could have been the Man of the Match tonight… who gave the award maybe was sleeping,” Mourinho said.
“But I don’t want to take anything away from Valverde. But if Courtois doesn’t get the Man of the Match tonight, it’ll never happen!”
