Four court cases challenging Solomon Adeola’s Ogun guber candidacy withdrawn, says Aide

Four court cases challenging the candidacy of Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun state, have been withdrawn, his media aide says.

Kayode Odunaro, Adeola’s media adviser, announced the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the “cases were discontinued successively” as campaigns for the 2027 governorship election begin.

Odunaro said no reasons were given for the withdrawal of the suits but claimed the litigants had become convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and decided to support his bid for the governorship.

One of the cases, marked FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was instituted by Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the inspector-general of police (IGP).

Another suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was filed by Akerele Abiodun John, Ogun state chairman of the Booth Party; Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi, Ogun state chairman of the Young Progressive Party (YPP); Ola Olamide Emmanuel of the Action Democratic Party (ADP); Ayinde Oluwayemisi Abiola, an ADP member; and Fesomade Gbadebo, a member of the Labour Party (LP).

The plaintiffs sued Adeola, INEC and APC.

Odunaro said the other discontinued cases were marked FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26.

He said some of the plaintiffs in the suits were the aforementioned party officials and members, alongside Olufemi Soluade, Ogun state chairman of the African Democratic Party (ADP); Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope, an LP member; and Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.

According to Adeola’s aide, Awoniyi’s suit was discontinued on August 24, 2026, while the other three cases were withdrawn on September 7.

Odunaro said the withdrawals took place in open court, and the defendants and their lawyers were duly informed through notices of discontinuance.

He said Adeola welcomed the development, adding that the APC candidate remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun and mobilising support across the state ahead of the election.

“I am more than ever focused on my delivery of dividends of democracy for Ogun State people and continue my mobilization for full campaign across the state in the days ahead for the general election,” Odunaro quoted Adeola as saying.
