Leadway moves to insure Detty December visitors

As Nigerians at home prepare to welcome friends, families and visitors from across the world for the festive season, Leadway Assurance has unveiled a short-term insurance package designed to provide protection against unexpected losses during the busy travel and entertainment period.

The insurer introduced the Leadway Arrival Pack, a seasonal insurance solution tailored to the needs of diaspora Nigerians, tourists, business travellers, students, short-term visitors and businesses that cater to them.

The product was launched at an unveiling ceremony in Lagos on Thursday, attended by stakeholders from the travel, tourism, aviation, lifestyle and financial services sectors.

Speaking at the launch, Executive Director, Retail and Partnership, Leadway Assurance, Kikelomo Fischer, said the initiative was driven by the need to make temporary stays in Nigeria safer and less stressful.

“Our primary objective in launching the Arrival Pack is to ensure that coming into Nigeria for a temporary visit or stay is defined by greater peace of mind, both for visitors and the businesses that serve them,” Fischer said.

Her comments come against the backdrop of rising international travel into the country.

She stated that international passenger movements into Nigeria increased from 4.33 million in 2024 to 4.85 million in 2025, representing about 12 per cent growth.

Fischer said the increase in passenger traffic also meant greater exposure to unforeseen risks, particularly during periods when airports, hotels, event centres, restaurants, transport operators and other businesses experience a surge in activity.

“As travel and commercial activity increase, so does exposure to unexpected risks. The Arrival Pack is designed to provide relevant protection during these periods, giving visitors greater confidence during their stay and businesses greater assurance as they serve them,” she said.

The product is particularly targeted at the realities of Nigeria’s increasingly busy festive calendar, where December has evolved into a major period for international arrivals, family reunions, concerts, weddings, tourism, nightlife and other social and commercial activities.

The product particularly tends to end the lamentations of some visitors to Nigeria who had at one time or the other lost valuables during their travel to Nigeria.

Leadway said the Arrival Pack was developed to provide a more flexible option for people who may not need conventional long-term insurance policies.

Traditional insurance products are often structured around longer periods of coverage, which can leave people visiting Nigeria for only a few days or weeks with limited options for protection.

The Arrival Pack seeks to bridge that gap by offering short-term coverage designed around temporary stays and seasonal peaks in activity.

The insurer said the product would also benefit businesses serving the influx of visitors, providing an additional layer of assurance at a time when demand for their services typically rises sharply.

December will serve as the flagship season for the Arrival Pack as Leadway welcomes the 2026 festive period. However, the company said the product is not limited to the Christmas season.

According to the insurer, the solution is also designed for other periods of heightened travel and commercial activity, including Easter, Eid and similar seasonal occasions.

Leadway said the Arrival Pack is already available for purchase through its website, allowing eligible visitors and businesses to obtain coverage ahead of high-activity periods.
