FG Plans to Engage 4,000 Influencers to Showcase Tinubu’s Projects Ahead of 2027

The Federal Government is planning to mobilise 4,000 social media influencers to showcase infrastructure projects and communicate the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Minister of Works David Umahi disclosed the plan on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following its inspection of federal road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and Sokoto states. 

Umahi said the proposed influencer network would help the government communicate directly with Nigerians, particularly young people who consume a significant amount of information through social media.

“We have to fight this social media war. So, we have to launch 4,000 social media influencers to tell our stories,” Umahi said. 

The minister said he was proud of the infrastructure projects being undertaken by the Tinubu administration and argued that the government needed to communicate its record more effectively.

He also linked the communication effort to the 2027 general elections, saying the administration had enough projects to campaign on. 

However, details on how the 4,000 influencers will be selected, whether they will be paid, how much they would receive and when the recruitment will begin have not been disclosed. 

The announcement comes as political parties and political support groups increasingly rely on social media to shape public debate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Umahi’s comments specifically referred to a Federal Government initiative, although some reports have framed it as an APC effort to promote Tinubu. The primary reports on his statement describe it as a government plan to mobilise influencers to showcase federal infrastructure projects. 

Meanwhile, Umahi said the government was considering pedestrian bridges around university campuses following concerns raised by NANS during its inspection of federal projects.

He also said the 105-kilometre pavement section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway under construction was expected to be completed by November 2026, while raising concerns over alleged vandalism along the project.
