EFCC, ICPC Asked To Investigate Senator Adeola’s Transformer Distribution To Ogun Communities Labelled As Birthday Gift
A civic technology platform, MonITNG, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a thorough investigation into the funding, procurement, and implementation of the 102 transformers Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola distributed.
The senator distributed the transformers to 435 communities across Ogun State as his 56th birthday gift.
In a statement on Saturday posted on its X handle, titled: “BUSTED!!!”, the civic group faulted Senator Adeola’s narrative that it was a personal empowerment initiative and a birthday gesture to his constituents.
The group revealed that the transformer project was funded by the Nigerian government and not through any personal or private effort by the Senator, citing verified records from the 2024 and 2025 Nigerian government budgets.

“We are aware of the recent event where Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) celebrated his 56th birthday by distributing 102 transformers to 435 communities across Ogun State,” the statement read.
“The Senator and his supporters presented this as a personal empowerment initiative and a birthday gesture to his constituents. However, verified records from the 2024 and 2025 Federal Government budgets reveal that these transformers were funded by the Federal Government, not through any personal or private effort by the Senator.”
According to MonITNG, the projects were captured under two separate allocations in the federal budgets. Project Code ERGP20263486, titled “Supply and Installation of 500KVA Transformers in Various Locations in Ogun East Senatorial District”, was allocated ₦200,000,000 in the 2025 budget, while Project Code ERGP20245144, titled “Supply and Installation of 500KVA Transformers in Various Communities in Ogun East Senatorial District”, was allocated ₦125,000,000 in the 2024 budget.
MonITNG emphasised that both projects are Federal Government-funded constituency interventions, meaning they were financed with taxpayer money, not from the personal funds of any political office holder.
“It is therefore misleading to present these public projects as personal birthday gifts or private interventions, especially as part of a political strategy ahead of the 2027 Ogun State elections,” the group stated.
“Even more concerning is that some of the agencies assigned to implement these projects, such as the BCDA and National Productivity Centre, lack the technical capacity to execute power-related infrastructure.
“This raises serious red flags about how these projects were approved, the procurement process followed, and the actual purpose behind their execution.
“Public projects are community assets, not campaign tools. The attempt to rebrand government-funded projects as personal achievements undermines accountability, transparency, and public trust. It is essential that Nigerians are fully informed about how their money is spent and who truly funds these projects.”
The civic group called on the EFCC and ICPC to investigate the funding, procurement, and implementation of these transformer projects, emphasising that public projects are community assets, not campaign tools, and that transparency and accountability must remain the foundation of true leadership.
“We therefore call on the @officialEFCC and @icpcnigeria to launch a thorough investigation into the funding, procurement, and implementation of these transformer projects.
“The public deserves clarity on how government resources are being used and whether due process was followed.
“Public office should serve the people, not personal political ambitions. Transparency and accountability must remain the foundation of true leadership.”(SaharaReporters)
