After 68 Days Vacation, Lawmakers Embark On Another Recess

Members of the National Assembly on Tuesday proceeded on a short break after being on vacation for the past 68 days.

Our correspondent reports that the nation’s legislative body began its 2026 annual recess on Thursday, July 23, 2026, following the conclusion of plenary proceedings.

The upper legislative chamber initially adjourned till Tuesday, September 15, 2026, but later extended the recess to September 29 due to repairs on the sound systems in both chambers.

Upon resumption on Tuesday, the federal lawmakers adjourned till October 13 after extending the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget.

In the upper chamber, the adjournment was announced following deliberations regarding Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges.

The Senate confirmed that the October 13 resumption date aligns with the conclusion of its upcoming National Security Summit.

The summit is structured to convene lawmakers, service chiefs, security agencies, and key stakeholders to develop revised strategies for addressing intelligence and territorial security concerns across the country.

The House of Representatives members also adjourned after consideration of key fiscal measures.

A lawmaker, who spoke with our correspondent, said both chambers are expected to resume full legislative activities and committee assignments upon their return in mid-October.(Daily trust)
