Gala recoup €31m on Osimhen
Galatasaray’s record signing Victor Osimhen has more than justified his €75m transfer fee from Napoli, with the Nigerian striker has already earning the club a staggering €31m through his performances and commercial impact, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to Turkish outlet Sportx, Osimhen’s goals in both the league and the Champions League have proven highly profitable for the Istanbul giants.
The 26-year-old, who played a leading role in last season’s title-winning campaign, reportedly generated €18.8m for the club through their European exploits.
The report further noted that despite failing to secure any points against Frankfurt, Galatasaray earned an additional €4.2m from victories over Liverpool and Bodø/Glimt, both inspired by Osimhen’s goals, bringing his total financial contribution from the Champions League alone to €23m.
The publication described Osimhen as “highly profitable for the club”, crediting his clinical performances in both domestic and European competitions for driving significant earnings.
“Although Galatasaray failed to secure any points against Frankfurt, victories over Liverpool and Bodø/Glimt added another €4.2m to their coffers. This brought the striker’s total financial impact from the Champions League alone to €23m,” Sportx reported.
Beyond his performances on the pitch, Sportx also added that Osimhen has become a commercial sensation in Turkey.
At the start of the season, Galatasaray launched a special Osimhen-themed kit collection, featuring masks and customised merchandise, which sold 40,000 units through GS Stores after a call from president Dursun Özbek.
Sportx revealed that these sales generated 400 million lira (approximately €8.19m) in revenue, pushing Osimhen’s combined financial contribution to around €31m.
“Despite those who said ‘Osimhen cannot be given this much money’, the Nigerian star has already put almost a third of his record fee back in the safe,” the outlet stated.
Osimhen’s influence has also been instrumental in Galatasaray’s unbeaten run in the league this season, with the yellow-reds accumulating 240 million lira in performance-based earnings.
The forward’s brace in the 3-1 victory over Bodø/Glimt last week not only extended his scoring streak to seven consecutive European matches but also made him the first Galatasaray player ever to achieve such a feat, surpassing Burak Yılmaz’s previous record of six.
His strike in the third minute of that same match also marked Galatasaray’s fastest goal in the Champions League. With 42 goals in 49 appearances since joining the Turkish champions, Osimhen has already overtaken club legends Xhevat Prekazi and Shabani Nonda on the all-time scorers list.
Club president Dursun Özbek has since moved to quell transfer speculation, insisting that Osimhen is not for sale.
“Osimhen’s contract does not have an exit clause. He is extremely successful and will serve Galatasaray for many years,” Özbek said, as quoted by Fanatik.
He added that while the transfer fee may have raised eyebrows initially, the forward’s value has already surpassed the investment, reinforcing Galatasaray’s transparency and ambition in the transfer market.
Vice-president Abdullah Kavukçu also praised the Super Eagles star, emphasising that Osimhen’s performances have vindicated the club’s bold move. “There are players in the world worth €140m, but Osimhen is more talked about,” he said. “We’ve seen what he’s doing in the Champions League. We’re so happy he’s with us.”(Punch)
