BREAKING: Players Contact Lawyers Over Potential Claims Against Manchester City
Players and their representatives have reportedly contacted lawyers to explore potential compensation claims against Manchester City following the Premier League’s findings in the club’s long-running financial case.
According to Sky Sports News, some players are examining whether they may have suffered financial losses as a result of Manchester City’s alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.
The potential claims are understood to centre on lost bonuses that players could have earned if their clubs had achieved higher league positions, won trophies or qualified for European competitions during the period covered by the case.
The Premier League’s findings relate to alleged breaches spanning several seasons between 2009–10 and 2017–18.
The possible legal action could extend beyond players. Former managers and coaches are also reportedly examining whether they could have grounds to pursue compensation for earnings they believe were affected by Manchester City’s performances during the period under investigation.
Several Premier League clubs have likewise been reported to be considering legal action against City.
However, the potential claims remain at an exploratory stage. No player has been awarded compensation, and contacting lawyers does not mean that a successful legal claim has been established.
Manchester City has strongly rejected the Premier League’s findings and is expected to appeal the decision. The outcome of that appeal could have significant implications for any potential compensation claims brought by players, managers or rival clubs.
If the findings ultimately stand, the dispute could therefore move beyond sporting sanctions and develop into a wider legal battle involving individuals and clubs who believe they suffered financial losses as a consequence of Manchester City’s alleged financial-rule breaches.
The situation remains ongoing, with further legal developments expected as Manchester City pursues its appeal.
