Thugs who stole senate mace arrested
There was pandemonium at the Nigerian National Assembly yesterday when thugs working for the suspended senate member Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, invaded the senate chamber and made away with the Senate Mace.
According to reports reaching Parrot Nigeria, the five suspects have been arrested by the FCT police command after they brazenly broke into the chambers of the National assembly and forcefully escaped with the Mace, the symbol of authority of the nation’s legislature.
The criminals were ALLEGEDLY led into the Red Chambers by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, are all from Delta State.
The names are:
Peter Orede – Warri South LGA
Blessing Edjeke from Abraka In Ethiope East LGA
Tuoyo Mabiaku – Warri North Local Government Area
Lucky Okomu from Oghara in Ethiope West LGA
Prince Enayemo – Ughelli South LGA
The Nigerian Police has however recovered the missing Senate mace this morning. According to the deputy public relations officer Aremu Adeniran, the mace was recovered where the hoodlums abandoned it at a point under the flyover before the City Gate. According to him, a patriotic passer-by saw it, and alerted the Police.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege had earlier been suspended by the senate on April 12th for ninety legislative days, over his comment, that the amendment to the Electoral Act 2010 to reorder the sequence of polls in a general election was targeted at Pres Buhari.
The suspension of Sen. Omo-Agege came after he was investigated by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, based on a petition by Senator Dino Melaye. Omo-Agege alongside nine other Senators had staged a walkout after the Senate passed the bill.
The report by the committee, which was considered at the plenary on Thursday, found the lawmaker guilty despite his apology to the chamber and recommended that he be suspended for 181 legislative days (one year).
He was however reported to have been arrested by the Police yesterday. although the Police Command later denied the report.
