President Bola Tinubu has said the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun will bring troops closer to vulnerable communities and strengthen their response to security threats.

Tinubu disclosed this in a statement on the recent measures being taken by his administration to improve the welfare and operational capacity of the Armed Forces.

The President said the new formations were part of efforts to enhance the military’s ability to respond to threats against communities.

“This week, the Nigerian Army operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun. Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” he said.

Tinubu also said the Federal Government was accelerating the construction of new barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, while facilities in Osun had already been completed.

“We are also fast-tracking the construction of new barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, with Osun already completed,” he said.

The President said the measures were necessary to support military personnel and their families as the government demanded more from servicemen and women.

“As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” Tinubu said.

He also said the recent increase in the pay of members of the Armed Forces was making a difference in the lives of personnel and their families.

“Over the past few days, servicemen and women of the Armed Forces have shared what the recent pay increase means for them and their families. I am glad it is making a difference,” he said.

Tinubu noted that military deployments also affected the families of personnel, saying they shared in the sacrifices made by those serving in the Armed Forces.

“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too,” he said.

The President added that, as Commander-in-Chief, he had a responsibility to ensure that the Armed Forces had the resources and support required to carry out their duties.

“As our Armed Forces stand watch over Nigeria, my duty as Commander-in-Chief is to ensure they have the resources and support to do their job, and that Nigeria stands firmly behind the families waiting for them at home,” he said.
