You’re Campaigning For Your Future – Tinubu Tells City Boys
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told members of the City Boy Movement that they are campaigning for his re-election, but for their their future.
This is as the President also weighed into the fuel subsidy controversy, saying that the country will not go back to Egypt.
Tinubu spoke when he hosted the movement at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
“You are not campaigning for me. You are campaigning for your own future,” the President declared, adding that the economy is growing steadily.
“You will have a future, a future to believe in,” he told those present.
Speaking on the controversy surrounding the promise by the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, to return subsidy if elected, President Tinubu said, “You cannot ask Moses to go back to Egypt.”
President Tinubu who was impressed with the presentation by the movement on how they were going to deliver over ten million votes for him during the election said, “With your ideas, I came and I removed subsidy the first day. No, Nigeria will go bankrupt. You have nothing left to pay subsidy,” the President said.
He said he was aware that his political opponents had promised to restore the subsidy but insisted that the country must not return to its previous economic path.
“I listen to my political opponents promising a return to subsidy. Most of all, sometimes I remember my scriptural studies, both in the Bible and in the Holy Koran. When Moses and Musa left Egypt, they faced the challenge and the Red Sea parted and gave way.
“You cannot ask Moses to go back to Egypt. We will campaign with ideas and original thoughts and deep thinking to move this country forward. With your energy, your support, never will we go back to Egypt,” Tinubu maintained.
