No Promotion Scandal In Police – IGP
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday dismissed social media reports alleging a promotion scandal within the Nigeria Police Force.
Egbetokun spoke at Force Headquarters, Abuja, when he decorated 19 newly promoted senior officers.
Daily Trust reports that those promoted included a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Dan-Kwara; 4 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 11 Commissioners of Police.
Speaking before decorating the newly promoted officers, the IGP said the claims were the handiwork of “mischief makers” determined to tarnish the image of the Force.
According to him, every promotion exercise conducted under his administration followed due process, was transparent, merit-based, and in strict conformity with established standards.
The top cop stressed that all promotions under his administration were carried out with transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to merit-based standards.
“There is no promotion scandal in the Nigeria Police Force. What we have is a system that rewards diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity.
“Our commitment to fairness and merit remains unwavering. Promotions today are guided solely by competence, performance, and discipline. There is no place for nepotism or sentiment,” he said.
The IGP congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to view their promotion as a call to greater responsibility, accountability, and ethical leadership.
The police chief also encouraged the officers to adapt to modern security challenges and embrace innovation in crime prevention.
