The devil you know is better than the angel you have never met.” That saying appears to be the guiding principle of leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who are said to be rooting for the return of the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, ahead of the party’s national convention.

As the National Convention Committee is set to announce details of its programme this week, sources in the party said key stakeholders had resolved to stand by Odigie-Oyegun in the contest for the party’s top job.

It was learnt that many of the stakeholders are of the view that it is better to stick with the devil they know very well than the angel they know nothing about.

A source said:  “I can tell you that Chief John Odigie-Oyegun will return as chairman. The stakeholders have realised that the Bola Tinubu/Adams Oshiomhole plot to have him replaced cannot really be relied on to yield the desired results.

“No one knows the extent of division such a change will bring and the party may be worse for it.”

It was learnt that the governors were prepared to meet President Muhammadu Buhari, as soon as he returns to the country and intimate him of the need to re-elect Odigie-Oyegun to ensure stability in the party.

Another source said: “The man’s character appears to be playing well for him. He is seen as someone who does not go out of the way to make enemies. He has also been loyal to the president.

“Besides, the structures of President Buhari and that of Senate President Bukola Saraki appear to agree on this choice. The two camps are of the view that the Odigie-Oyegun should remain to ensure peace and stability.”

It was learnt that the national convention would hold in Abuja and that the convention committee is set to announce some details during the week.  (Nigerian Tribune)
