Ex-Convict, Two Others Arrested In Lagos For Theft, Days After Leaving Prison
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a 25-year-old ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, barely five days after regaining freedom from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
It was learnt that Kolawole was nabbed at about 8am on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Oshodi Market after officers noticed his suspicious movements.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Thursday, he was found in possession of ₦80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone, both traced to a burglary he had earlier carried out in Opebi, Lagos, where he allegedly stole ₦200,000 and the device from a sleeping trader.
A police statement said part of the stolen cash had already been spent by the suspect on new clothes and shoes, which were also recovered during his arrest.
In a separate operation, the RRS operatives arrested two other suspects — 27-year-old Sodiq Isa and 21-year-old Adekanmbi Ganiu — for attempting to steal mobile phones from commuters in different parts of the state around 5 p.m. on Friday, October 24.
According to the police, both suspects are notorious for targeting pedestrians and commuters during rush hours in crowded areas. Their modus operandi reportedly involves snatching phones and wallets from victims caught in traffic jams or while boarding commercial buses.
The statement added that the swift intervention of the operatives prevented further thefts, and the recovered items had been returned to their rightful owners.
“All three suspects are currently in lawful custody and undergoing further investigation at the Rapid Response Squad Headquarters. Upon conclusion of investigations, they will be charged to court,” the police said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the RRS operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained operations against criminal elements across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement on Thursday, October 30, 2025, assured Lagos residents that due process would be followed to ensure justice is served. (SaharaReporters)
