THE Osun State government yesterday it is conducting integrity test on houses suspected to be weak in its domain. The measure is to prevent building collapse.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola gave the directive at the weekend, following last week’s collapse of buildings in Lagos and Ibadan.

Supervisor for Works Remi Omowaiye said that the governor’s directive would be carried out immediately to prevent building collapse.

He said: “All the relevant agencies and facilities in the state would be mobilised to ensure that what is necessary is done.”

The supervisor urged the public to report any observation they have on any building  believed to be weak so that immediate action will be taken.

The governor has also directed the Ministry of the Environment to ensure that drains are desilted regularly to prevent flooding during the rains.

Omowaiye said the ministries of Works, Environment, Land and Urban Development would collaborate to take pre-emptive action against building collapse in the state.

“We don’t want what happened last week in Lagos and Oyo states to happen here. That is why we are being proactive as directed by the governor,” Omowaiye added.
