Police confirm Kebbi school invasion, give fresh details
The Police have confirmed the attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School at Maga, Kebbi State.
Daily Trust had reported how bandits invaded the school in the wee hours of Monday, killing the Vice Principal and abducting students.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, could not be reached for comments as of the time the initial report was filed.
However, Abubakar later confirmed the incident, saying the attackers scaled the school’s fence to carry out the attack.
He said armed with sophisticated weapons, they shot sporadically before whisking away 25 students.
He said, “The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them into a gun duel but the suspected bandits had already abducted them in their hostel.”
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ahmed Idris, disclosed that the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, had been dispatched to the school to assess the situation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.
“The deputy governor is on his way to know the exact situation. The governor is not in the state for now, but his deputy will go on his behalf until he returns at any moment from now,” Idris said.
Maga, a community located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state, has come under a series of attacks recently.
Commenting on the latest attack in the town, a resident of Maga, Aliyu Yakubu, said the bandits invaded the school around 5 am on Monday without any resistance.
He said the school principal, Makuku was shot while trying to protect the students during the attack.
“He was shot as he tried to protect his students from being taken by the bandits. It’s a great loss for the community and the school,” be said.(Daily trust)
