Kanu: Heavy security around Abia Government House
Security presence around the Abia State Government House, Umuahia, was visibly heightened on Thursday following public reactions to the judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the case involving the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The increased deployment is believed to be a precautionary measure, as Kanu’s country home is located only a short distance from the Government House.
Heavily armed police officers were stationed at both the main entrance and exit gates of the complex, drawing the attention of pedestrians and motorists. The deployment appeared aimed at forestalling any potential unrest.
Despite the heightened security, the city remained calm, though the atmosphere was subdued as residents discussed the judgment in low tones.
Some individuals expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, while others openly disagreed with the outcome.
Checks across other parts of the state indicated that the situation remained peaceful without any reported disturbances.
