Adamawa Government Shuts All Boarding Schools Amid Fresh Wave Of Mass Abductions

Fearing a repeat of the sweeping school raids that recently rocked Kebbi and Niger States, the Adamawa State government has ordered an immediate shutdown of all boarding schools across the state, SaharaReporters can confirm.

The directive, issued by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, came through a circular dated November 22, 2025, warning that the rising pattern of coordinated attacks on boarding schools has made urgent action unavoidable.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how dozens of pupils were whisked away in brazen attacks on schools in Kebbi and Niger, heightening fears across the northern region and exposing deepening cracks in Nigeria’s security architecture.

In the new circular sighted by SaharaReporters, Pella said the government was acting in response to the “disturbing trend” of kidnappers targeting boarding students, noting that Adamawa would not wait to be the next headline in the growing list of school abductions.

“Sequel to the security challenges the country is facing, particularly the incidents in Niger and Kebbi States, it has become clear that these criminal elements are focusing on boarding secondary schools,” the circular stated.

He added that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had directed that all boarding schools— public and private — be immediately deboarded and converted into day schools “for the moment,” as a precautionary measure.

The move reflects rising anxiety among parents, teachers, and communities as armed groups intensify attacks on educational institutions across northern Nigeria.  (SaharaReporters)
