Thugs attack Fuji star Obesere at burial ceremony in Ondo
Fuji maestro Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, was on Friday allegedly attacked by suspected thugs in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred at the Government Field, Okitipupa, where the musician and his band were performing at a burial ceremony attended by dignitaries.
It was learnt that the armed thugs stormed the venue and launched a violent attack, destroying the band’s musical equipment and assaulting members.
Although the motive behind the attack remains unclear, it was gathered that the group of thugs is notorious for disrupting social events and extorting performers in the area.
Mr Akande did not immediately reply to calls or messages when contacted.
When contacted, the state police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet been briefed on the incident but promised to provide updates as soon as they were available.
However, the chairman of Okitipupa LGA, Andrew Ogunsakin, confirmed the attack in a statement on Saturday, describing it as unfortunate and unacceptable.
Mr Ogunsakin said his administration would not tolerate acts capable of undermining the peace and reputation of the community, assuring that measures would be taken to prevent a recurrence.
“I received the news of the unfortunate mistreatment meted out to Abass Akande Obesere and his team with deep disappointment and utmost distaste. This incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values we uphold as a people.
“I will be personally reaching out to Obesere and his team to convey our regrets. We are looking into the matter thoroughly to ensure such an incident does not repeat itself,” he stated.(Peoples Gazette)
