Application for Canadian Permanent Residency hits 63,400

The Canadian Government invited 3,600 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence, which makes it a total of 63,400 Express Entry candidates invited so far in 2019.

The new Express Entry draw was held on the 18th September 2019, and according to the latest Canadian Immigration Newsletter, the minimum required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the draw was 462 which was one point lower than the previous draw held on the 4th of September.

The Breakdown: In the latest ranking, all candidates with scores of 462 and above whose Express Entry profiles were created before the tie-break date (29 August 2019) received an Invitations to Apply (ITAs).

Basically, the Canadian Government’s target is to admit 81,400 candidates in 2019 and 85,800 in 2020 through the three Federal High Skilled economic immigration categories, from which they have invited a total of 63,400 already.

Below is the visual representation of the target and actual Express Entry candidates admitted since 2015.

The Express Entry system manages the pool of candidates for Canada’s three Federal High Skilled economic categories; the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Eligible Candidates: Eligible candidates for these categories are entered into the Express Entry pool and assigned a ranking score based on factors such as age, education, work experience, and proficiency in English or French.

The highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residency through regular draws from the pool.

New Opportunity: Meanwhile, the province of Saskatchewan has invited 769 Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in its latest draw held 25th September 2019.

According to a report, those invited represent 100 occupations which include civil and chemical engineers, medical radiation technologists, psychologists and information systems analysts and consultants.

Essentially, candidates with scores below 462 and want to improve their ranking have a number of potential options, one of which being a provincial nomination through an enhanced nomination stream which results in an additional 600 CRS points and effectively guarantees an ITA in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

About Provincial Nomination: The programmes allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province.

Each Canadian province and territory has its own unique Provincial Nominee Program and has at least one immigration stream that is aligned with the federal Express immigration selection system. Several of these nomination streams do not require a minimum CRS score in order to be eligible, while others have CRS requirements that are well below the cut-off score.
