Notorious bandit leader Mustapha Babaro imposes N50 million levy on Katsina LGA
Mustapha Babaro, a notorious bandit leader operating in Katsina State, has imposed a N50 million levy on residents of Yargoje and surrounding communities in Kankara Local Government Area.
A security expert, Bakatsine made this disclosure via a post on X on Sunday, November 23.
According to Bakatsine, residents of the affected communities said Babaro had issued a stern warning to them on the levy on Saturday.
He said the bandit leader had directed the communities to raise the said fine within a particular period of time or face serious consequences.
Bakatsine wrote on X, “Notorious armed bandit leader Mustapha Babaro has reportedly imposed a ₦50m levy on Yargoje and communities surrounding it, Kankara LGA, Katsina State.
“Residents say he issued a stern warning to villages yesterday that failing to pay within the set deadline will have repercussions,” he said.
He also noted that, it is unfortunate that this is the second time this sort of directive has been made on two different LGAs that have conducted a peace parley with bandits.
“If this can happen in an LGA that held two peace parleys with bandits in less than 3 months, what kind of truce are local authorities in Katsina State actually reaching and how effective is it in protecting communities?” Bakatsine queried.
