Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho speaks about Sir Alex Ferguson
Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United are ‘very positive’ and confident Sir Alex Ferguson will recover from the brain haemorrhage he suffered at the weekend.
Ferguson, 76, was admitted to the intensive care unit at Salford Royal Hospital after he felt unwell at his Cheshire home at the weekend. United said in a statement on Saturday: “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage. The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.”
The United great is believed to be recovering well and Mourinho spoke about his predecessor’s health scare on the eve of United’s Thursday night fixture at West Ham.
When asked about Ferguson, Mourinho replied: “It’s private. His family ask for privacy and that’s what I’m going to respect. We are positive, we are very, very positive.
“We are confident [he will recover]. I can only think that if there is any relation [to the West Ham game] it is a positive relation.”
Mourinho comes up against former United manager David Moyes at West Ham on Thursday night. The Scot replaced Slaven Bilic as Hammers manager in November and has navigated them to safety despite a turbulent atmosphere at the club amid unhappiness among some supporters over the ownership.
Ex-United striker Mark Hughes has all but kept Southampton up and Mourinho was keen to show his appreciation for his peers in the relegation dogfight.
“Every manager that managed to do that [stay up], some like just to give a couple of examples like [Rafael] Benitez, [Chris] Hughton, they start and end the season with the club they manage to keep them safety in the Premier League,” Mourinho added. “It’s a great job.
“There are some other examples that other people that got them in the middle of the season and managed to get the points to save them like David, Roy Hodgson and so many others. (Manchester Evening news)
