Malam Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state is a polygamist and he is proud to flaunt it as he showed off his three wives at his 60th birthday celebration in Kaduna on Monday.

The first wife is Hadiza Isma from Kano, who was born 21 June 1960.

Apart from being fluent in Hausa and English, she also speaks French.

She met Nasir in 1976 at the Kaduna School of Basic Studies. Both went to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where she studied Architecture and El-Rufai Quantity Surveying.

They got married in 1985.

She has a BSc and MSc in Architecture (1983) and an MBA (1992) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as well as a Masters in Creative Writing (2012) from Bath Spa University, United Kingdom.

She once worked as a lecturer at the Department of Architecture at Kaduna Polytechnic. She also worked for a few years at the National Electric Power Authority, before venturing into private practice, before working in private practice. She now runs Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation, set up to honour their daughter, who died in 2001.

She has also written a book ‘An abundance of Scorpions”, described by Helon Habila as “a heartbreaking tale of loss and an uplifting story of a woman’s strength and determination”

Asia Ahmad El-Rufai:

She is El-Rufai’s second wife. She is a lawyer. They got married 21 years ago. She is the mother of Bilqiss, who scored nine A pluse in her Cambridge exam in 2018, as a student of The Regent Secondary School in Abuja.

I started working soon after my call to Bar with the Federal Capital Development Authority and then moved on to practice Law first under a principal then set up my own Law firm. I left private practice to gain public service experience. I worked with Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission and later the Debt Management Office, where I stayed for 9 years.

I left Public Service to re-establish my practice.

I am currently enrolled to study Forensic Psychology and Criminal Investigation at the University of Liverpool, this I hope will enhance the prospects of my Law firm in being among the top Criminal Law Firm in Nigeria.

My Goal and that of my Firm is to Provide tailor-made legal services to our clients and contribute to the development of legal profession in Nigeria”

She also teaches law at Baze University in Abuja.

Ummi Garba El-Rufai:
Hajiya Aisha Ummi Garba El-Rufai is an interior decorator, also born in Kano, but her parents are from Jigawa.

She attended five schools to complete her primary and secondary education. Her last primary school was Alfred International School, Ibadan, where she graduated in 1991.

She also went to Model Secondary School, Maitama, graduating in 1998. She attended two universities and graduated from the University of Abuja in 2003 with a BSc in Political Science.

She worked with Pension Fund Administrator, then First Alliances, now ARM Pension. She worked there till she was the manager of customer relations after which she moved to the federal government to work with the presidency in the Border Communities Development Agency. She later decided to stop working and concentrate on her marital life.
