Video: I support total lockdown for coronavirus, says Tinubu
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said he would support the total lockdown of Lagos to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Lagos, at the moment has 29 cases of coronavirus out of the national total of 44.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu rolled out a series of measures to curtail the pandemic, which has killed about 18,600 people worldwide and infected over 400,000.
After meeting Sanwo-Olu at the Government House in Marina, Tinubu urged residents and Nigerians, in general, to obey government’s directives and measures.
Tinubu, a former governor the state, said that he would support any decision taken by the government to halt the spread of the virus.
He called the virus a ‘mysterious disease”.
According to him, the ”stay-at-home” order for civil servants was commendable.
“We need to observe social distancing. It is a new culture that we have to abide with. You must respect the governor’s directive for the workers to stay at home, particularly our students and market women.
“We must obey the government. We thank religious leaders who have asked their followers to follow the governor’s directives, both Muslims and Christians alike,” Tinubu said.
He also urged market women to follow strict hygiene.
“The activities in the market must reflect the new culture. It will teach us a new thing that we are not used to, such as hygiene, washing of hands, not having handshakes and hugging”, he said.
