32 Nigerians Arrested in Ghana Over Romance Scam as Government Launches Massive Clampdown on Cybercrime
Sam George, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has praised the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) for a recent operation that resulted in the arrest of 32 Nigerians linked to a romance scam syndicate in Kasoa Tuba.
In a post on his X handle, the minister described the operation as “another massive blow…against cybercrime in Ghana,” highlighting the collaboration between the CSA and the country’s national security apparatus.
“The team at @CSAGhana continues to do an excellent job. We will support their efforts to make Ghana an unattractive destination for cybercrimes,” Sam George wrote.
Sources familiar with the operation said the arrested individuals were part of a well-organised network that defrauded victims across multiple countries by exploiting emotional relationships online.
The raid forms part of a broader government crackdown aimed at curbing cybercrime, which has surged in Ghana in recent years.
Authorities have warned that cybercrime, including romance scams, identity theft, and financial fraud, increasingly affects both local and international victims.
They say investigations are ongoing, and further arrests may follow as agencies work to dismantle other criminal networks operating within the country.
