Fire guts Asokoro property owned by former Zamfara state governor
A fire outbreak on Saturday gutted a property linked to Alhaji Sani Yerima, former governor of Zamfara state, in Asokoro, Abuja.
The incident occurred at 13 Nelson Mandela Street in the high-brow Asokoro area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Four out of five blocks of three-bedroom flats in the compound were destroyed by the fire as it was said to have started from solar panels installed on the roof of one of the buildings and spread rapidly to adjoining flats, causing extensive damage.
Nkechi Isa, head of public affairs, Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD), confirmed the incident in a statement.
Isa said Monday Addie, head of FEMD’s search and rescue team, reported the fire at about 1:00 pm and said no lives were lost in the incident.
“According to the head of FEMD search and rescue team, Mr Monday Addie, the incident was reported at about 1:00 p.m. No life was lost to the incident. However, the four affected flats were totally burned,” the statement read.
Isa said the fire destroyed household items including furniture, clothing, food, and other personal belongings, adding that emergency responders arrived at the scene to contain the fire and prevent further spread.
“Personnel of FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency and the FCT Police Command attended to the incident,” Isa said.
