Alaafin To Install Seyi Tinubu As Okanlomo Of Yorubaland
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, is set to install Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.
According to a viral invitation seen by our correspondent, the installation of President Tinubu’s son is scheduled to take place in Oyo Town on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
LEADERSHIP reports that the planned installation is scheduled to take place approximately two weeks after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, installed influential Ibadan businessman, Prince Dotun Sanusi, as the Okanlomo Oodua in Ile-Ife.
A palace source confirmed to our correspondent that the installation will proceed as announced, stating that the local organising committee is working around the clock to ensure a successful event.
Also responding to the investiture, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Community Engagement, South-West, Moremi Ojudu, a close confidant of Seyi Tinubu, wrote in Yoruba: “Okanlomo mi owon. Egbon mi pataki. South-West gba alejo.” (My dear Okanlomo. My special brother. The South-West will receive visitors).
Recall that the Oyo monarch had challenged the Ooni of Ife over the reported installation of Sanusi as Okanlomo of Yorubaland, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum through his media aide, Bode Durojaye, for the retraction of the title.
The Alaafin had claimed that the Ooni lacked the authority to proclaim titles covering Yorubaland.
Reactions have greeted the planned installation, given the controversies surrounding Sanusi’s investiture as Okanlomo Oodua and the timing of Barrister Tinubu’s naming as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.
