Soldiers ambush Boko Haram convoy, kill 21 terrorists in Borno
Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation HADIN KAI have disrupted a Boko Haram and ISWAP logistics movement, killing 21 terrorists in Borno state.
The operation took place in Sojiri and Kayamla communities following intelligence on the movement of more than 100 Boko Haram terrorists converging to attack local communities and transport supplies to their strongholds.
The troops, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes, mobilised to intercept the terrorists and contact was made at about 12:00 pm as the terrorists advanced.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, the troops engaged the fighters in a sustained firefight, during which the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre which was repelled by the soldiers.
The army said superior firepower allowed the troops to dominate the engagement and a follow-up exploitation of the forest confirmed the neutralisation of 21 terrorists.
The army said several other fighters escaped with gunshot wounds, adding that follow-on operations are ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more items.
Items recovered include bicycles, assorted food items, drugs and medical supplies. Other items recovered were detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres and torchlights.
The troops also recovered assorted weapons and ammunition of different calibres.
