Akeredolu must transmit power to deputy, Ondo PDP insists
The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter, has reiterated the need for the doctrine of necessity to be activated over the continued absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from the state owing to his ill-health.
Chairman of the party, Fatai Adams, while addressing journalists, yesterday, over the situation of the state, stated that it is unreasonable for the state to be in a state of coma due to the inability of the governor to discharge his duties.
According to him, Akeredolu should exhibit the courage of transmitting power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, just like he advised the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua when he was ill.
The PDP further maintained that lack of cohesion within the State Executive Council (SEC) is an indication that the state under Akeredolu is on autopilot, particularly with what it described as disregard for the office of the deputy governor.
He said: “We continue to wish Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu well in his quest to get back to full fitness. However, the collective wellbeing of our state and its people is most paramount. The business of administering the state is no tea party or picnic. This demands every attention that can be mustered.”
Adams, who also demanded that the Akeredolu-led administration should give account of how the finances of the state are spent, particularly the palliative funds, vowed to take action against those allegedly siphoning the state’s money.
He also tackled the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Ade Adetimehin, over the alleged claim that a plan had been hatched for members of the PDP State Working Committee (SWC) to decamp to the ruling APC.
“We note the many gibberish outbursts of the APC chairman in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, denigrating our party, much as his many outbursts can be regarded as clownish and pedestrian.
“We need to let Adetimehin know that his incongruous tact and managerial ability have since made many of those who joined APC with fanfare return quietly to the PDP. At the appropriate time, we will celebrate their return. We, however, put Adetimehin and his party on notice that henceforth, every act of misdemeanour by him will be challenged with dispatch.”
