Akeredolu Returns From Medical Leave After Three Months
Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu may have arrived the country and is said to be in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Akeredolu had been away from the country on medical leave for three months.
Sources said some members of the Ondo government’s cabinet have reportedly relocated to Ibadan.
On social media, the wife of the governor, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, had on Thursday afternoon posted a picture of her husband on board an aircraft with the footnote, ‘Homebound.’
Sources said the aircraft conveying Akeredolu landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, some minutes after 3:00p.m and the governor was immediately flown to Ibadan airport.
Besides, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Richard Olatunde, also later in the day issued a congratulatory message addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his deputy, Kashim Shettima, on their victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT).
The statement was the first Olatunde would issue on behalf of the governor since he embarked on medical leave on June 13, 2023, having transmitted power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, through the state House of Assembly.
Akeredolu later applied for extension of his medical leave on July 10, 2023, after he was said to have travelled to Germany for medical attention and subsequently recuperating.
A source said the governor may stay in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, before going to take over at Akure, the Ondo State capital.
“I’m also aware that some members of the state Exco might likely visit him there to welcome him back to the state,” the source said.
