Akwa Ibom Assembly denies report of plot to probe ex-Gov Udom

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has denied the claim that it is planning to investigate Emmanuel Udom, the state’s former governor.

Kufreabasi Edidem, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly described as dalsw, the reports in some sections of the media that there are moves to constitute a committee for investigation against Udom.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Edidem said Udom’s administration is not under any form of probe.

“That the publication is speculative, lacks a factual basis, and does not reflect any official position or resolution of the House,” Edidem said.

According to the Deputy Speaker, on Thursday, August 7, Uwem Imoh-Ita, a member of the House representing Mkpat Enin State had raised a matter of urgent public importance before the plenary.

He said that the lawmaker alleged that some employees of the State’s coconut plantation had not received their salaries for seven months.

The lawmaker also stated that the House has constituted a committee to investigate the issue raised.

The committee was also expected to report back to the leadership of the House within a period of one month.

“The committee has yet to submit its report to the House for consideration.

“Inaccurate and sensational reporting not only misleads the public but also undermines the credibility of democratic institutions.

“Media professionals should thus know where to draw the line between facts and sensationalism,” Edidem added.
