Akwa Ibom: Why I made my daughter first lady — Gov Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has explained why he has decided to avail the daughter, Mrs. Helen Obareki, the opportunity to man the first lady’s office following the demise of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno.

According to him, she had been with the mother from the beginning of his administration and can continue from where she stopped.

He made the clarification on Sunday, while addressing a congregation of the All Nations Christian Ministry International during their National combined worship service.

“Our daughter, Mrs Helen Obareki, will Coordinate the office of the First Lady. First Ladies are not appointed. They come with the Governor and she had been with the mother from the beginning.

“The First Lady has gone but the work of the First Lady must continue, so I choose our First daughter…

“I do it fully conscious of the fact that the office of the First Lady has responsibilities to the women of this state. My wife had programmes she was running – the Golden Initiative for All, GIFA, the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly and others. As long as I remain Governor, those programmes will not die.

“By appointment, she’s the Senior Special Assistant, SSA to the Governor and the Coordinator, office of the First Lady.
Let the office keep running. I’ll be comforted…” he explained.
