Almoroof family nominates MC Oluomo as Oba of Oshodi, says NURTW boss is from ruling house
THE Kupoluyi Almoroof family, one of the acclaimed ruling families in Oshodi, Lagos, yesterday, announced the nomination of the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Lagos Council, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called ‘MC Oluomo’, as its candidate for the traditional stool in the community.
This declaration, according to the family, became expedient following an argument over Oluomo’s eligibility for the Oshodi traditional stool.
Members of the Oshodi Tapa family had, last week, insisted that Oluomo was not a member of the 12 families that make up the chieftaincy family in Oshodi.
But briefing journalists on its choice of Oluomo as the Oba of Oshodi, the secretary of the Kupoluyi Almoroof family, Abdulwasiu Almoroof, said: “MC Oluomo has the right to be Oba of Oshodi because he is a member of the ruling house.
“A Supreme Court judgement declared that the Arotaologun family alone can be crowned as king of Oshodi.
“The Arotaologun family comprises the Almoroof Kupoluyi family, Ajenifuja and nine other families.
“Therefore, the Kopoluyi family is one of the ruling houses in Oshodi, because of the Supreme Court judgment and steps have been taken so far to ensure that Oshodi progresses.
“Oluomo is related to us, members of the Almoroof Kupoluyi, from the side of Alhaja Shaddia Almoroof, who is the sister of Pa Saludeen Almoroof Ewa.
“He (Pa Saludeen) is the father of MC Oluomo. He was from the first leading family of Oshodi, which is the Italogun family.
“Members of the Kupoluyi Almoroof family held a meeting last Sunday and agreed to nominate MC Oluomo as its candidate for Oba of Oshodi land.
“Each of the ruling families has the right to pick who should become the Oba of Oshodi, so we have nominated Oluomo as our choice Oba from our end.
“But that does not stop any other ruling family from making its choice. But for the Kupoluyi Almaroof family, Oluomo is our choice candidate for Oba.”
