AMCON CHAIR: Eko Foundation condemns senators’ rejection of Banire

Banire

A Lagos group, Eko Foundation, has condemned the rejection of the three senators from the state of the nomination of the immediate past National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Muiz Adeyemi Banire (SAN), as the Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Chief Kunle Uthman, and Social/Welfare Secretary, Prince Tokunbo Akinsemoyin, the group described the senators’ action as shocking.

“We posit that this act of our senators is not in the  interest, nor in consonance with the  advancement, of Lagos State in particular and is tantamount to betrayal of the principle of parity of  representation in safeguarding our stake in  national affairs.

How on earth would Lagos  senators be acting against the interest of the constituency they are representing and whose interest ought to be  paramount at all times?”, the statement said.

“It is crystal clear that the failure of Lagos State to have its indigenes occupy prominent positions in government within the Nigerian Federation is an albatross stifling its advancement and growth, and the act of these senators lend credence to this abnormality.

“We are aware that there are 109 Distinguished Senators in the Senate, and each and everyone of them has a role to play in the confirmation of the Board of Directors of AMCON. We appreciate the 106 other Distinguished Senators for their uprightness and objectivity in the confirmation exercise”.
