Amid low voter turnout, APC wins all seats in Osun LG poll

The Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates as winners of the seats contested in the state’s local government election.

According to NAN, Segun Oladitan, chairman of OSIEC, had, on Thursday, announced that only one political party signified intention to contest in the election.

He, however, did not mention the name of the political party that signified interest at the time.

The ballot paper used for voting was said to have not carried the logo of any political party, and only reflected ‘YES or NO”.

Low turnout of electorate was observed during the exercise, which took place on Saturday, and this was said to be as a result of lack of adequate publicity about the election.

Announcing the official results and issuing the certificates of return on Sunday, Oladitan said all the 462 contestants were returned unopposed.

He added that the declaration of winners was done in line with section 35 of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission 2022 Act and sections 105(1) and 106(1)(a)(b) of the electoral act.

“I have the privilege to announce to you that the candidates, having fulfilled the requirements of the 1999 constitution (as amended), the electoral act, 2022 and the Law of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, 2022, are hereby declared and returned unopposed in their respective local government areas, local council development areas and area councils,” he said.

Chairpersons and councillors were elected into the 30 LGAs, 32 local council development areas, and seven area offices in the state.
