A coalition of Nigerians in the United States of America and the United Kingdom has alleged that the worrisome rates of banditry, kidnapping and other criminal acts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are perpetrated by those against the pragmatic developmental strategy of the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
The coalition, under the auspices of the United Nigerians for True Federalism (UNTF), North America Chapter, made the claim yesterday in an electronic mail statement by its Secretary General, Mr. Kenneth Friday.
UNTF, whose members are made up of professional engineers, medical practitioners, lawyers, retired military personnel, among others, expressing concerns about the incessant cases of kidnapping and banditry in Abuja, expressed confidence in the ability of Wike, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security chiefs to tackle insecurity.
They claimed that the anti-Wike elements were uncomfortable with the achievements of the minister in the FCT with infrastructural projects, savings of over N100billion in less than six months in office, and ordering of contractors with abandoned public projects to resume work or face the law.
They also alleged that “these same wicked elements are against Wike’s support for President Tinubu and are bent on instigating and sponsoring kidnapping and insecurity close to the power base in Abuja, to sow discord and disrupt the relationship between him and the President.
They urged Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to withdraw excessive security aides attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) and politicians and deploy them to join the proposed Presidential Security Task Force to tackle crime in the FCT.
