APC Reacts to Reported Coalition Between PDP, SDP, Five Other Parties
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the proposed coalition of seven opposition parties, stating it won’t lose sleep over their “gang-up.”
Recall that an alliance was reportedly formed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Allied Movement (PAM), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), on Wednesday in Abuja at the National Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Reacting to the development, APC national publicity secretary Felix Morka said, “We are not concerned about that.”
He added, “Whatever they (opposition) do is on them. It is up to them to justify themselves before Nigerians.”
Morka acknowledged the APC’s own formation from various parties in 2013 but said the party will not be distracted by the new move by the “opposition elements”.
This development follows a proposal by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in November for the opposition to unite. According to the former Vice President, there is concern about the country’s potential slide into a one-party state.
