The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State has endorsed Governor Gboyega Oyetola for another term.

The party also adopted consensus model for the ward congress of Saturday.

The Chairman of the Congress Electoral Panel, Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye, at a meeting with party leadership in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday evening said due process would be followed during the exercise.

Senator Sunday Fajinmi from Iwo, Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency moved motion for the adoption of the incumbent state Chairman of the party, Prince Adegboyega Famodun, and the endorsement of Oyetola for second term.

The motion was seconded by Hon. George Jolaoye, a former House of Representatives member.

Oyetola and top party faithful in the state including former Deputy Governor, Mrs Titilaoye Laoye Ponle, Senator Iyiola Omisore and Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin who were at the meeting confirmed the adoption of consensus model.

Also, the Senator representing Osun Certral, Dr Basiru Ajibola, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, while speaking on behalf of all legislators in the state, also confirmed the adoption of consensus model for the exercise.

Oyetola said the adoption of consensus was to prevent rancour and appealed to members of the party in the state to conduct themselves peacefully during the process.

The governor said necessary security arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of lives and property across the state before, during and after the Congress.

But the camp of the former governor of the state and Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, said the consensus arrangement was designed to edge out he and his followers from the control of the party structure in the state.

The Secretary of the party, Mr Rasaq Salinsile, and the former Chairman of the party who are in Aregbesola’s camp, said they were not aware of the consensus arrangement.

Also, some APC women and youths staged peaceful protest claiming that Senator Gbenga Elegbeleye Congress Electoral Panel did not carry them along.

The protesters led by Mr Rasheed Raji alleged that Oyetola and Famodun camped the Congress Electoral Panel.

They also claimed that party members did not have access to the panel and Congress materials. (Daily Trust)
