B/Haram: Buhari visits Maiduguri today, cancels Daura trip
President Muhammadu Buhari will today visit Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in an effort to boost the morale of the Nigerian troop fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the North east geopolitical zone.
Daily Trust reports that all arrangements for the visit have been concluded. Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmed had on Monday announced on his twitter hadle that the President would be visiting Maiduguri today.
Our correspondent reports that already the advance team of the Presidency has since been dispatched to Maiduguri.
During the visit, it was gathered that the President would declare open the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) annual conference scheduled to hold at the Borno State Government House, Maiduguri.
It was gathered the President would use the visit to meet with Nigerian troop.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has cancelled his trip to Daura, his hometown in Katsina State. The president was to spend five days in Daura, starting from Tuesday.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the cancellation of the Daura trip, saying it was a planned private visit and not casual leave.
