Bako Bala, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State, has been killed by gunmen in what appears to be a failed kidnapping attempt at his home.

Reports indicate that Bala was taken hostage along with his family. He was later rushed to the Medical Centre Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, where he unfortunately died from gunshot injuries.

Zaidu Bala, the special adviser on television and radio to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, confirmed the death in a Facebook post, stating, “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Alhaji Bako Bala has died — APC chairman of Suru local government.”

The police spokesperson for Kebbi State, Nafiu Abubakar, has announced that he is currently verifying the details of this tragic incident.

This killing is part of a troubling trend of violence and banditry in Nigeria’s north-west region, where security forces are actively working to address ongoing issues of insurgency and insecurity.
